"The only way the charitable sector can ensure long term stability is to be self-sufficient, and Vartana is one way of achieving this." - Ken Coulter, Executve Director of WENSNet
On Friday April 22nd, a select group of over 20 charities came together in Windsor Ontario to meet Aaron Pereira, and learn how Vartana could improve the way they work. Hosted by the Windsor Essex Nonprofit Support Network (WENSNet), the session included representatives from organizations involved in health, children’s services, the arts, developmental disabilities, and cultural development.
While most had not previously heard of Vartana, all were interested to hear more about a bank dedicated to the special needs of charities. In particular, services such as loans and mortgages, insurance and financial advice were of special interest. What they heard both inspired and encouraged them. A bank dedicated to serve charities, run as a charity – innovation at its best.
WENSNet was happy to coordinate this meeting. For more than ten years this grass roots charity has provided facilities, information resources and advocacy services for the charitable sector in Windsor Essex County.
All twenty two participants in the Windsor session left with a sense of excitement and anticipation for Vartana’s official kick off. While it is only one small sample of Canada’s massive voluntary sector, the results of the Windsor meeting proved that Vartana is on the right track, with well developed services that will be enthusiastically welcomed by the tens of thousands of charities across Canada.
